One Of Those Weekends

It was one that went by way too fast.
It was jammed packed with things to do, fun things but was over in a blink of an eye.
Friday night we went to the ECU Volleyball game and unfortunately lost but it was still a fun game followed by movies.

Saturday was our second home football game, we played University of Texas at El Paso.
It was a pretty rainy, gross day but we made the best of it.
The game wasn't until seven so we spent the majority of it tailgating, playing corn hole, wearing cowboy boots, eating good food in our rain jackets.
Once the game finally started the weather took a turn for the worse, causing a delay right before half time.
Considering the tornado warning that was issued for Pitt county most of us went back to the dorms and called it a night.
With Loaded Chicken Nachos I might add (much better than my regular Subway).
The game was eventually back on (I was in my pajamas by this time and did not attend) and ECU beat UTEP!!

Sunday was the definition of a "lazy" day.
Most of slept in well past ten o'lock, which was exactly what I needed.
The rest of the day was spent in bed watching movies with a Pumpkin Spice Latte in my hand along with a little bit of homework here and there (Don't worry Dad it all got done!) with some nail painting mixed in.
Exactly what a Sunday should be in my book.

Five more days until another fabulous weekend!! At HOME along with a visit to HSC and Longwood!!

Happy Monday!!

Blood Drive: Ehh

I think most of us know how terrified I am of needles.
I get nervous before I even go to the doctor to get a shot.
It is all that I can think about, including everything that could possibly go wrong.
It started when I was little.
They used to dread having to take me to the pediatrician.
I would ask days before going if I was going to have to get a shot, they always said no.
They lied.
I get nervous, clammy, and get anxiety when I even think about it
I tend to faint whenever I get an IV or give blood, which is odd considering my future nursing profession.
Well, today the American Red Cross came to ECU and held an all day blood drive.
Many teachers gave the incentive of extra credit if you participated.

Elizabeth who has been sick for a couple days was in no condition of giving blood today.
Those ten extra credit points were sounding awfully nice though.
To get your points you or someone else has to donate in place for you.
I was that nice person today.
(You owe me Liz!)

I am happy to say that today was the FIRST ever successful donation that I have made.
I have never actually made it through the entire process.
I get through the screening and the awful finger prick that they say "doesn't hurt".
Once again, they lie.
Usually as soon they stick my arm I am a goner.
Today was different, I made it!
Afterwards I was a little dizzy.
Which was easily fixed by some cranberry juice and pretzels, then I was on my way!
It is a pretty rewarding feeling after you complete the process, a lot more so than I expected.
I have always been so disappointed that I haven't been able to make a donation so today was a definite monumental moment!

Nervously awaiting my turn
I wouldn't have considered myself "ready"

Tragedy Averted

Yesterday my heart stopped.
It was a close call.
I might have almost shed a tear.
If you know me you know how much I love my camera.
It took me months to decide which one I wanted and multiple trips to Best Buy.
I finally chose a D90 for graduation and I couldn't be happier!
(Thanks Dad!)
Yesterday I was in a hurry and wasn't being cautious, my beloved Nikon slammed the side of my dresser.
Shattering what I thought was my lens...my favorite lens that I never take off.
About two years ago when I got my first camera my Dad talked me into getting a filter.
It is a simple piece of glass that screws on over your lens as protection and often gives your photos better quality.
After having to borrow pliers from the maintenance man.
Who definitely thought I was crazy and couldn't understand why I needed his pliers for my camera, I got it off.
Thankfully just my filter was shattered and my lens was left in perfect condition.
Que the lowering of my blood pressure.
Long story short I was extremely thankful for that that lens filter.
And it reminded me to slow down.
Enjoy the day.

I am having a hard time finding inspiration here around Greenville to pull my camera out for.
It has been spending way too much time in the camera bag.
I'm hoping that will change soon.
I'm looking to join a photography club on campus!

Happy Wednesday!

Its a long way to Richmond going North on 95

I went home this weekend and it was so good!!

It was exactly what I needed, going home is always so good for the soul. I needed to sleep in my own bed, eat a real meal (anything besides Subway), play with my dog, and most importantly see my family. Spending time with my family after being away for awhile grounds me again, brings me back to my roots. It pushes all the stresses in life aside reminding you of the things that really matter.

Friday afternoon after classes Elizabeth, Matt, and I packed up, bringing our friend Lia home! We left Greenville early afternoon and made it home by 4:30. We managed to surprise the Milton family(there were tears)!

We were actually pretty happy!

Lia

The excitement called for some fist pumping

Saturday was a fairly lazy day. I spent the morning relaxing and cooking with Mimi. Later that afternoon I went over to my other Grandparent's, Nana and Papa. We went to dinner and church and it was good as always. I love getting the chance to spend time with them as I don't get opportunity often enough.

Saturday night I got to see this boy!
Who I might add is almost unrecognizable due to his new interest in facial hair.

Sunday I got up early to take advantage of our short morning before I headed back to Greenville. I got to spend some good quality time with the Marchettis, whom I miss dearly. It was great to see them and have everyone home along with Miss America.

I am back to the grind today enjoying my lack of homework due to the pile of exams I had last week. Another bonus being that I got groceries and Subway will not be in my future the next few days!

Happy Monday!!

Room Revisions

I changed my room around a few days ago to give myself a little more space but also to make my room a little more functional. I was finding that the set up I had always had an issue, from I couldn't see the TV to I couldn't open my closet door all the way. I also bunked the beds, which I am loving. It opened up so much floor space! So far I am enjoying the new arrangement!

My personal favorite part of the room

Mini "kitchen"/ hair style station

Yes I am OCD and put an extra set of sheets on the extra mattress

I have my first college exam tomorrow morning, at the wee hour of 8 a.m! Hopefully Psychology will be my thing tomorrow! I have spent the afternoon studying in my room. I got to open the windows because it is so cool outside. A month ago I thought I was going to die because of the band practice along with 6 a.m. trash pick up right outside my window. I've learned to embrace it and be thankful I am not out there that early doing either!

I am getting excited about going home to Richmond this weekend!

Happy Hump Day!

Fall is in the air

Fall is finally starting to make its arrival here and I cannot tell you how excited I am about it! The older I have gotten the more I have started to enjoy September and October. I love seeing the trees change to reds, yellows, and oranges. I am sucker for a good homemade pumpkin pie, fire pit time, along with my pumpkin spice candles.

As I walked to class this morning and there was a briskness in the air and I soaked in every second. It is so nice to no longer have such a heavy haze in the air that always comes along with the summer months. By early August I tend to be getting sick of my summer clothes and am ready to move on. To top it off I stopped and picked up one of my first Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks at an early 7 a.m. which made my wake up call just a little bit better.

I can't wait to pull out my treasured Frye boots, jeans, along with my cozy sweaters! I am welcoming fall with open arms!

Today is also the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. It is a day that everyone remembers, down to what they were doing when they first heard the news to exactly where they were. Even though I was only in second grade I still remember the sadness and fear that went through our nation. All of the buses here at ECU have a flag along with 9/11/01 on the LCD screen. Everyone has a Facebook status or a tweet to show support for our country. It is a day where no matter where you live or where you are we come together as one to remember and show gratitude to all of the lives that were lost.

The Beginning of the Best Days

It's now the official fourth week of College. Some days it feels like it has been four months and others it feels like four days! I have finally gotten settled into my room and started to make it cozy. It has definitely been a transition and I am already starting to get sick of the food. Subway twice a day isn't going to cut it. I am trying to enjoy every moment, soak up all of the little things. I know it will be over before I know it.

Here are some room pictures!

(The room has actually changed a lot since these were taken. I'll upload new later)

We had our first football game last weekend! It was an experience to say the least, a good one! It started at 7:45 a.m. with tailgating...in an elementary school parking lot. So cliche. It just happens to be directly  across from our football stadium. Elizabeth (my best friend from home), her boyfriend Matt, his roommate Devin, and I met with Matt's parents and a couple other families and enjoyed the morning.

We played App State and....wait for it...WE WON! (shocking I know)

It was sixty degrees this morning when I left for class at an early 8:30 a.m. It was so nice to have to run inside..actually up five flights of stairs to grab a jacket. We have been suffering from a brutal heat wave for the past two weeks. I am very thankful ECU has air conditioning on days like those!

Here is to another great week!
