Convocation: Class of 2015

Last week I had the honor of seeing many of our seniors go through the process of Convocation.

Convocation is pretty special to Longwood, signifying the start of the school year. This being the beginning of the end for the senior class. Each senior designates someone else to decorate their cap for them.

In the words of Longwood:

"Each senior asks an underclassman to serve as his/her little brother or sister (capper). The capper decorates the senior's mortarboard with mementos of the senior's Longwood experience and "caps" his/her senior at the appropriate time in the ceremony."

It really was a moving experience, the speakers literally gave me chills. It was held outside for the first time this year on our gorgeous Lancaster lawn. The seniors will graduate at the other end, Wheeler Lawn in May.

I made my Big's (Shannon) cap and it was a lot of fun. It really allows everyone's personalities to shine through on such a special day.

9/11

Today marks the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. I feel like the older I have gotten to more somber the day becomes. It always seems to turn into a day of reflection, which is exactly what I have done so far this morning.

Today makes me count my blessings, the many that I am blessed with. Call my family and tell them how much I love them. And hug a few people a little tighter.

Today is a day of remembrance of those that we lost, a day that unites us as a nation. A day that we will never forget.

A few years ago I visited the 9/11 Memorial, it is something that I highly encourage people to take advantage of if they get the opprotunity. It was a humbling experience and one that I will never forget.

It was actually underway when I went and I hear that it has only improved since being finished.

My favorite part of the memorial was The Survivor Tree, the tree that was found on Ground Zero and was transplanted and is still thriving to this day.

Back to the Grind

It always takes a little while to get back into the swing of things at school. Once you are gone for those three months of relaxation and a part time job you tend to forget what reality is like. It didn't take me too long this go around, most likely because my schedule has been jam packed with classes and other functions.

First of all I miss this girl more that I ever thought possible! Our chapter is not the same without her but she visited on move in day and it made the start of the year even better!

I've spent a lot of time with this girl lately and I've been loving it! Izzy is wonderful! I've been thinking about you and your family lately! xo

We had a tabling event on Brock Commons last week to start of the year! It was hot but we had a great turn out and it was wonderful to get to spend some time with some sisters that I do not get to see that often.

Convocation is tomorrow, I'm super excited! More to come on that later!

And sometimes we all just need a little pick me up on a Wednesday evening!

Guess Who Got Lavaliered?!

I got lavaliered tonight and it was one of my best experiences in Sigma Kappa so far. I was completely shocked and it was the best/overwhelming thing that happened this week, and much needed!

A big thank you to my wonderful Big, Shannon for making it happen! Love you always!!
